This is such a great book, that I look forward to going back and reading this story again, and now I am impatient to read the rest of the books in this series by this author. Primo writes tension filled and descriptive scenes. This is a well written, creative and intriguing story about a vampire, Kat, who is saved by a 5 year old little boy named Caleb, after she's injured trying to commit suicide by walking into the sun. She is so impressed by Caleb that in return she kills his abusive dad, hypnotized Caleb to forget, and then secretly gets his mom a job and sets up things to change their lives for the better. Kat has struggled to find happiness and a reason to continue living after over 500 years of a difficult existence as a vampire. She decides to check back in on Caleb, now that he is in his 20's, and ends up attracted, not just to his looks, but to his character. This story is about their relationship, falling in love, difficulties with Kat being in love with a human, and Caleb's daily challenges accepting a vampire mate. If that wasn't enough, Kat and her two closest vampire friends must protect Caleb and defeat an evil vampire that wants revenge on Kat by killing them all. Then primo throws into the mix, inventive, vivid characters, and graphic battles and action that makes your pulse race, seriously heart pounding scenes. The author's brilliance is woven into all that goodness to make up this fantastic paranormal romance/adventure and makes this series a "must-have"!!!! I didn't want to set it down....seriously. I was drawn in to the vampire's point of view and an idea of what that hard life would be like that most people never think closely about. Let me start by saying that I've never really read paranormal romance before. I never thought it would be something I was interested in. That all changed when I read this book.
The characters were detailed to the point they seemed very real to me. While there is romance in the story, it's masterfully written. There's also a wonderful plot waved in there full of action and suspense. I adored the very different personalities of the vampires, he did a great job of humanizing them to a degree in interesting ways.
I read this book in 9 hours, only stopping to sleep in for a little while before waking up and going right back to it. I seriously just couldn't put this book down! I absolutely can't wait to read the rest of this series. I all ready find myself thinking about the characters and what they may be up to now.

My only regret is that I forgot to review this when I finished! This is a twist on 2 of my favorite genres Paranormal Romance and Alpha Male Romance (you know the kind.)
At first I was like "What is this? An Alpha woman? I don't know about this..." I mean, I tend to like a more Dominant male and submissive female sort of relationship. I wasn't sure that this was for me. I thought the story was paced really nicely and it kept me engaged from the start (I stayed up way too late reading) and about 3/4ths of the way through it slowed down a little bit, but then picked back up. The main male character is more of a submissive kind of guy, but I don't think he came off as a weenie. He just came off as a really genuinely nice guy who was easy going and happy to let the girl he is with take the lead because it's important to her. I don't think he lacks balls, but was secure enough in his masculinity and in his feelings for Katrina that he was okay with letting her do what is natural to her, take the lead. She is a vampire after all and has incredible powers and is used to calling the shots... it would be unlikely that a male would tame her from the start. So I like that Jaz wrote a strong female lead who didn't need to change or be tamed or softened. Katrina is who she is, unapologetically.
This book has a little mystery, romance, action, and comedy; it didn't focus on any one thing for too long but switched between so that I never felt bored. I like a steamy book, but lets face it, there are only so many sex scenes I can read before its like "Okay, can the characters do something else now?" This also allowed for nice character development as well as watching the relationship between the lead characters develop rather than focusing so much on just the romance that it ended up being what I call a ramen-romance (instant soup romance)..aka It all happens really fast but it ends up being kind of lackluster. There were enough things going on in the book that it added to the romance but gave you multiple things to enjoy about the story.
While this book would primarily attract female readers, I do think there are quite a few males who would enjoy it as well.
