I am so glad I read this book. It is amazing to me how I could live 64 years and missed so much Black History. I learned of Aunt Lucy about four months ago; until then I never knew the story of the African-American civil war nurses. She sacrificed so much to serve her country and was loved by so many soldiers. After serving faithfully her pension was denied for many years. On 12-1898 she was finally given her pension.Read and learn for we are never too old to learn Black History!Product details

Miss Lucy Slave and Civil War Nurse Judith C OwensLalude 9780984820337 Books Reviews
"Miss Lucy Slave and Civil War Nurse" is based on the life of Lucy Higgs Nichols.
Judith C. Owens-Lalude adds fictional elements to write this as a "story" that flows through Miss Lucy's entire life. The descriptive writing places the reader in the time period, and draws one into Miss Lucy's world - a slave on a plantation, nursing soldiers during the civil war, and living in New Albany, Indiana, after the war.
Appropriate for children and adults.
Congratulations to the author on this significant work.
